Apartment Review
Terrible Experience - Worst Customer Service Ever!
Review Date: 7/26/2010

When we moved in to this place last year, my roommates and I had high hopes. We were psyched to move into a beautiful, brand-spankin' new three bedroom apartment and to start using all of the great amenities. For the first few months, Avalon lived up to our expectations . . . and then the landslide started. Before we moved in, the management boasted that the apartments were made according to higher "condo specs" so noise would not be an issue. We believed them until people moved into the newly completed apartment above us. I understand that living in an apartment with kids must be tough and they're bound to make some noise but this is ridiculous. For the last 8 months, we've been enduring near-constant banging, running, stamping and jumping starting as early as 7am and running sometimes til midnight. We repeatedly addressed the situation with management and they wrote the people above several letters and then eventually told us there was nothing more that they could do and we would essentially just have to deal with it. Are you kidding? We're paying $2435 a month and that's the customer service you offer? We deserve to be able to enjoy where we live (to give you an idea, it was so loud here on Easter that our guests begged us to leave the party we planned here and we wound up having to take everyone out for dinner instead). Among the other things they promised us when we moved in was that parking would not be a problem, and it wasn't for the first 6 months. Then, the Catch restaurant opened on the bottom floor of the building (which we were told about prior to move in) and they closed off about 2/3's of the visitor parking (which they did not tell us would be happening prior to move in). Now, whenever we have guests, we have to fight to find a parking spot. On several occasions, our guests have had no place to park so we've had to park our own cars at school (several miles away) and have our guests drive us back to our place so they can park in our spot. Again, this is ridiculous when you consider how much we pay for rent. Making matters worse, a few months ago, I was sick and didn't leave my apartment all weekend from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. When I went to get in my car on Sunday, there was a giant scrape along my door and white paint markings (the giant SUV next to me is white). I contacted management and asked for contact info for that resident. I had to call 3 times over the period of a week before I heard from someone. They refused to give me the resident's contact info and said that the resident denied it was them (obviously they would). They then offered to review the security cameras for me and I accepted. I also asked for a new parking spot since the residents next to me had obviously caused the damage to my car and given the many dents and scratches on their car, I didn't feel safe parking near them anymore. After 2 weeks of unreturned phone calls, I finally went to the office and I was told they hadn't even looked at the security tapes (as it turns out my car wasn't even visible on the tapes) and they hadn't yet got around to finding me a new space (fyi - they STILL have not found time to get me a new space several months after the fact). Despite my constant issues with this place, I always tried to polite and understanding but I did eventually ask for a rent credit given the significant problems and inconveniences detailed above (among others). The rental manager then got very short and abrasive with me and frankly acted in a completely unprofessional manner. She eventually agreed to take my request to her superiors, but I never heard back from anyone. After waiting more than a month (and feeling very poorly treated), I wrote letters to both the regional office and headquarters. That was several months ago and no one has ever made an effort to contact me. It's clear that this company does not care about or appreciate its residents at all. Bottom: This is the worst management company with which I have ever dealt. I have never received such poor customer service - not even when I was living in the third world! Live here if you want to deal with constant issues, annoyances and inconveniences. PS - I've spoken with many of my neighbors about their experiences here and everyone seems to agree that the management here is horrible. I'm sure some people are renewing their leases here, but I haven't met any one who is. See apartmentratings.com for other reviews
